DVD drive drama

Please help if you can? I have brought a second hand lap top which works really well, except when trying to play a dvd, it does not due to the settings being changed by the last owner?
And now is set to region 1. Is there any way of sorting it to region 2 or do I need to buy a new dvd drive, if so what type are they for a packard bell and what do they cost?
Cheers for any help in this matter.

All this assumes you have Windows XP.

Go to My Computer; Right click on your DVD drive icon and select properties.
Select Hardware and highlight your DVD drive.
Click on Properties. Select tab for DVD Region and see what it is set to. It will tell you if you have any changes left. If you have then problem is solved.

Cheers roy, I have tried that and it has no changes left and is on region 1. Which is why i am wondering that i may need a new dvd drive.
Thanks again.
