DVD decoder for my pc

  tristar 14:27 28 Oct 2006

I went to play a dvd movie disc I'd recorded some time ago, and a notice came up saying (I'm using windows media player 10 by the way)
'Cannot play dvd no suitable dvd decoder installed.'

Is there a version of Media player available that would let me play my dvd?
Or is there a (Free?) dvd decoder download that someone would recommend?

I'm interested because my son can play this disc with his new Toshiba lap top, and the quality is quite impressive.
