hi, my liteon dvd burner wont recognise blank disks.
this is the first time ive tried burning, it hasnt worked before.
im using nero.
when i try to burn i get the message 'please insert disk into drive d'
the dvd rom is set to slave and the dvdrw set to master.
there is one cable connecting both drives to the primary ide slot on the mother board.
in device manager both drives are listed as
LITE-ON DVD SHD 16P1S
For some reason the dvdrom (drive e)is now listed as a cd drive in my computer.
the company i bought the pc from said they are sending an ide cable, but i've tried different combinations like disconnecting the dvdrom and using the secondary ide slot but nothing works.

when i first recieved the pc both drives had been set as master. i bought it from pc specialist.
could there be a bios setting problem?

Any optical drive is listed as a CD drive by Windows - in fact all use the same basic CDROM Windows driver.

You do have the IDE cables correctly inserted into the sockets?

Also check in Device Manager that the IDE controllers are in order (i.e. no yellow exclamation marks by them).

the ide cables are ok and in order

Will the rewriter drive play audio CDs or install software?

Another tip that usually works is to Uninstall both drives from Device Manager and reboot.

Windows should Find New Hardware and reinstall the CDROM driver for each drive.

You'll probably find that the rewriter is D and the ROM drive E - you have to remember this if, for instance, you are running sfc /scannow and therefore use the rewriter.

rewriter plays audio and installs software
ive tried uninstalling, it didnt work.
both drives are listed with the same model number, like i've got two dvd roms

I've got a similair problem, my DVD RW won't recognise blank media. Plays music, movies etc no problem but not blanks.

I use Nero and get the same error message.

Had a look at the drives properties and it says drive is working correctly.

The rewriter might just not like the particular brand or type of blank disks you are currently trying.

Could also be worth checking if there are any firmware updates for the rewriter from the LG website (although this is a last ditch measure as if it goes wrong, then the drive is unlikely to be of much use).

what version of nero are you useing and has it been updated

  jay9614 20:16 30 Sep 2006

im using ner startsmart.
ive used nero infotool and it doesnt recognise d drive as a dvdrw but as a dvd rom.
my system info and nero both seem to be telling me i have two dvd roms when one is a dvdrw.
both drives are being listed as identical dvdroms.
ive tried the new ide cable as well.

My computer - right click drive - properties - recording tab - tick box "Enable recording on this drive"

Surely that is for using the Windows built-in CD Recording facility? jay9614 states he/she is using Nero.
