Duo Core?

Does Intel Core Duo 1.66ghz Mean 2 Cpu's?

1.6 x 2 = 3.2ghz ?

  SG Atlantis® 21:19 08 Aug 2006

It means to cpu cores in one CPU.

which means you have one CPU doing double the work as it has two "brains".

Theoretically your calculation is correct.

  SG Atlantis® 21:20 08 Aug 2006

It means TWO CPU cores in one CPU.

  scuba steve 21:22 08 Aug 2006

so, it wont be 3.2ghz?
Im sorry, not the best with computers...

Raw GHz isn't what CPU speed is all about these days, in layman's terms the core duo processors are built to handle data more 'efficiently' than it's predecessors, therefore they can process more data at any one given moment in time than a similarly specced (GHz speed) CPU.

Kinda like finding a better way to build tunnels so engineers can get more cars through in one go.

I think that makes sense?

  SG Atlantis® 21:32 08 Aug 2006

sort of...

It will be 1.66ghz but with 2 cores so you can process more things at once...

Only when it's running multiple applications or multi-threaded software can it, maybe, out perform a 3 gig athlon or pentium 4.

  scuba steve 21:34 08 Aug 2006

Hmm, It makes sense but im thinking 'Ghz' more due to me purchasing a laptop for gaming purpoases and specs of 3.0ghz are needed to play games such as FEAR ande Doom 3 for example.

Would a 1.66 Duo Core Processor be enough?

What you WILL notice is the absence of that sensation where your PC is busy and it 'freezes' because one core can carry on with a particular thing while you do another task on the other core. Cool eh?

  SG Atlantis® 21:35 08 Aug 2006

yeah De Marcus it does.

So instead of having one big tunnel where you get traffic jams and it clogs up.

They are making it with lots of smaller tunnels, but because they are smaller and there's more of them they get more done, with less jams and queues.

Hope it helps ya scuba

Core Duo has been recieving rave reviews both by reviewers at PCA Towers and elsewhere, they are quite simply, blisteringly fast.

  scuba steve 21:39 08 Aug 2006

So the two cores are both 1.6ghz?
