Is DSLagent.exe really needed on AOL Broadband?

I have found that I can STILL get online without the DSLagent.exe file running.
This was because I had to get into safe mode and when I rebooted into XP (normally) I forgot that DSLagent was still unticked in MSconfig and to my surprise I was still able to get online without it.

I always thought that this file is ESSENTIAL to running AOL?
Any comments on whether this is the case or not?

CurlyWhirly.

suggests you need it. Although you've stopped it starting up with your computer by using msconfig, is it currently showing up as a process in Task Manager? i.e. has it started up when you have signed onto AOL?

No I checked it WASN'T running in Windows Task Manager while I was online yet like you say I too have read the article you mentioned and according to that it IS essential.
Strange to say the least.
