drop shadow on desktop icon text

I've just got XP and the text for the desktop icons seem to have a drop shadow.

Can i get rid of this? If so how?

Right click on desktop, choose properties then appearence/effects. J.

Is there a way you can change the icon text back to black. I now realise the shadow is there as the text is transparent.

Yes, have a look at the appearence tab as above, but insted of "Effects" choose advanced.

Displayed in the drop down menu is, "Desktop".

Click on the menu and scroll down to "menu", click on that, and you will have a choice of font to use and colour. leave font at "Tahoma" but change colour to any you wish, in your case black. Regards. J.
