Drives Not Detected

  Bearsden 20:10 17 Mar 2008

Good Evening.

I am not a techtype so forgive me if some of the following is superfluous.

Targa Visionary
AMD Athlon 64, 2.2 GHZ
Motherboard; ASUS K8V-F,Rev 1004
Graphics: ATI Radeon X850XT (six mths old)
HDD: Hitachi 160 GB (6 mths old)
Mon.: L.G. Flatron LG 1518.

After POST the machine goes straight to message: 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media'. This message appeared after all attempts to boot.

Entered BIOS and found "Not detected" before each drive.
Removed Bios battery for about 20 minutes - no change.
Fitted new battery - no change
Corrected time and date but day of month kept reverting to "01".

Notes: HDD works in this machine.
PSU (300W) running cool
All fans working
No USB devices were connected
"Num Lock" was on all the time - I think!

So what is wrong with the Lidl 3 year warranty

PS to clear the BIOS you need to remove all power from the computer by pulling the Mains plug, then remove the CMOS battery then move the jumper near to battery to clear position, after puting jumper back and battery correct way round and try powering up

It may also be that sata drivers have been corrupted or drive as done a bunk

  Bearsden 20:32 17 Mar 2008

No change

  Bearsden 20:34 17 Mar 2008

I mentioned that the drive works in this machine

  woodchip 20:37 17 Mar 2008

Then all you may need is a new Data Cable for the Drive, or the Motherboard sockets Bus may be dud

  Bearsden 21:12 17 Mar 2008

Used the same data cable to test drive in this machine.
I have to go now. Thank you for your help. I will look again in the mng.

Unplugged and re-plugged motherboard power leads.
Drives now appear in the BIOS.
Machine now goes from first screen of POST to blank
screen with cursor.
Any ideas please?
