Drive letters

  johnincrete 06:13 24 Apr 2009

When XP was reinstalled some time ago, the PC was returned with "Removable Disk" with letters D, E, F, & G. My 2 CD/DVD drives were I & J with H being labelled "drivers".
When the DVD drive that was "J" was replaced by a new one, it became drive D and J is now a so-called "Removable Disk". If I click on any of the "removable disks" I am asked to insert a disk.
I would like to get rid of the useless "Removable Disk" drives & finish up with D and E as the two disk drives. I'll only do it if it's easy!!
Any advice please? Please include precautions I should take if I c... it up!

I assume that the "removable disks" relate to an in-built card reader. Personally, I would not be concerned about drive labelling but, if you wish to re-allocate, this should help click here .

Depending on what card reader you have, installing the correct drivers will sometimes 'roll-up' all the individual drives in to a single drive letter.
