My hard drive seems to spend a lot of time chuntering away. I assume something is being downloaded. Is there any way of checking what is being downloaded?

It will not be downloading, Your drive may need defragmenting, plus if the drive is nearly full it will stop when its no got enough work space left on the drive that's free

I defragged the other day and there is plenty of room on the drive. I'll defrag again, anyway. Thanks

Mine does the same but nothing running.
Just check Taskmanager, processes.and if anything running that will tell you what.

Windows disk indexing runs in the background
try switching it off in services or disk management - tools
to see if that makes a difference.

Various programs like your Antivirus will check for updates on a regular basis causing the HDD to run.

May be you need a faster drive

I do have AVG and I wondered if this was the culprit
