Yes, it defends your PC against malware

Defender is a real time scanner, do you have any other antispyware installed such as spywareblaster (as a blocker)?

I only use WD, AVG and no firewall...I never have a problem and I open all attachments.....'nuff said. Lot of paranoia and utter rubbish talked about the Net ;-))

and methodically keep them, up to date.

Yesterday I couldn't log on and was informed that I have a boot virus. God knows how. Had to relaod Windows today. Took me about 8 hrs to get everything working.

Just use a firewall, antivirus program, (recommend Avast!) and the usual antispyware progs.
