I have a Sky (Sagem) Wireless Modem/Router.
Does anyone know if the speed of copying files over my home network faster in which mode:-
1. 54G Auto
2. 54G Performance
3. 54G LRS
4. 802.11b only

Just leave it in 54G auto for wireless connection.

If you are copying large files or a large group of files, you can just plug laptop (via ethernet) into the router.

As 54Mbps wiresless is not very fast when it comes to transferring files.

As far as I'm aware 54Mbs is the maximum speed of 802.11, this can drop depending on distance and signal strength, so I would agree with Tech Guy, if you have big files or a lot of files to transfer then ethernet cable is the best way to go.

802.11 is just the ISO standard for WiFi.

Speed is up to 11Mbps (802.11b), up to 54Mbps(802.11g),up to 125Mbps (802.11g+) and up to 300Mbps (802.11n).

But yes as distance from source increases the speed reduces. Just think of it as the router in the centre of a circle, the closer to the edge you get the slower the speed.
