Do I need MSXML on my PC?

I'm tidying up my PCs and getting rid of unnecessary garbage.

One thing that I've come across in Add/Remove Programs on my newish laptop (under XP Pro) is MSXML 4.0 SP2 Parser and SDK. Does anyone know if I should keep this (I don't do any development and PCs just have pretty ordinary home apps on them - e.g. Office, Nero etc.)

I don't have it on my desktop (XP Home). But then I installed XP Home myself, whereas the laptop came with XP Pro pre-installed and only a recovery disk.

Don't think it's part of windows install and the 'XML bit I suppose refers to Excel which is part of MS Office. I might be tempted to uninstall it as it appears to be a tool rather than an application and you can always do a restore if it causes probs

I know what XML (eXtended Mark-up Language) is and have used it on odd occassions at work (Excel may utilise XML, but XML is much much broader than that). IE renders XML for display, but the Parser + SDK will, I guess, be much more.

I'm just not sure if it's needed on my PC (I can't really think why I should).
