I have been diligent in downloading windows updates, but I have read that before I install a wireless network I should download the service pack - do I have to do this?

thanks for your help

If SP1a isn't listed, then you must have installed it already (or came with the computer or XP CD).

To check, right click My Computer, select Properties. It opens up under the General tab. To the right, under System, you should see your Windows version and any Service Pack you may have installed.

If you see Service Pack 1 (or 1a), you don't need to install it.

First sentence of my post, I meant to say "If it isn't listed in Windows Updates scan, ..."

Microsoft, as stated above, says that SP1a doesn't need to be installed if you already have SP1 - see:

for the reasons behind this information.
