dllcache - I seem to have lost it?

WinXP Pro.
I have I386 in c:\ drive (to run sfc /scannow more smoothly).

Can someone tell me where the - dllcache - should be please?
and how I can replace it if I have to,I cannot find it anywhwere.

The reason that I ask is that when I used avast to do a thorough check, the desktop and avast freezes with avast stopping at dllcache.
I used - sfc /scannow - and that also freezes with the desktop after just a couple of moments,
and I have to switch off at the mains to restart.

The PC does run erratic at times, when I switch on it will start, stop and then restart, sometimes it will run o.k. for a couple of days.

Once it is running things seem to be fine.

Download the drive diagnostic application from the hard drive's manufacturer's website (if they have one), see if it reports any problems with the drive itself.

Was advised to try "sfc /purgecache" this resolved my problem, thank you all.
