Disk Space 'Lost'

Now that I have got the desktop back working I find that I have, apparently, 'lost' some 40 gigs of disk space. It's a 250 gig HD and the only partition I can see is the active one -'C' and this shows that it's size is 189 gigs. I suspect that the Ubunto I installed prior to being able to reformat and install XP is still one the hard disk but hidden and that it 'allotted' this space for it's own use - but I may be completely wrong! Anyone have a clue of what happened and how to recover that space?

Have you looked in Device manager/ Disc management? it might be there as "Unallocated" in which case you can add it to your C:

Unfortunately Rawprawn there are no unallocated entries at all, thanks for the quick reply.

No Jck, I don't think that is the problem - It has only appeared after I 'recovered' the computer's OS
- see click here

I notice that the 'C' partition is marked as 'system' - shouldn't that be 'active'?
