Disk Boot Failure

I was running Windows XP (SP2) and have now moved to Vista.
With XP I recently started to receive an error message on booting up, saying "Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk and press enter".I needed to put the XP CD ROM in and press enter as requested and everything then loaded as normal.
When I switched over to Vista, I expected that this would clear itself but I am still getting the same warning message on booting and need to insert the Vista CD.
Anyone any ideas as to how I can prevent this happening?

seems to be a generic fault so i would go with the first solution..

have you tried enabling the s.m.a.r.t. selector on your hard drive (from BIOS),as your drive may be breaking down. This will give you a 'Health warning' if there is a problem
