Discs not recognised in drive

Tried to install some software to Laptop but disc not recognised.Tried other discs but still no joy.The last time I used the drive was to install Norton IS.Any thoughts friends.

Might be worth a look in Device Manager to see if it shows and, if it does, if it's 'working properly'.

Check the Device Manager got a error code 39,
then check updates.Drivers up to date.
Optiarc ED ROM BC-5500S is flagged with yellow triange.Many Thanks.

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.
(This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio or other writing software.)

Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file to extract the contents. Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Run regedit and navigate to registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.

Many thanks Fruit Bat got a fix at last.Your first
link failed on my Vista laptop,the third link also
failed,but the second Microsoft Mr Fix was successful.Have a very good 2011.

First and third links are direct file downloads if your not running as Administrator in Vista or W7 it will block them.
