Discs causing shutdown

  daveac41 09:58 06 Mar 2009

I recently carried out a reinstall, and since then, the action of inserting discs into either of my disc drives, causes the PC (intermittently) to restart itself. System restore would only be a last-straw option.
What could be causing this, please? (WXP Pro SP3)

(Helproom Forum seemed unable to solve this, therefore moved to THIS forum)

The same people look at both forums.

Is the PC a laptop or desktop?

Have you checked BIOS settings?

Have you installed all drivers?

Have you checked Device Manager to ensure the DVD/CD drives are working correctly?

Have you had anything disconnected which may have been reconnected incorrectly?

If you have reinstalled Windows, you may not have a Restore point that works.
