Disabling Link Scanner in AVG 8.0

I have downloaded the new improved version of AVG as it is now ignoring the Active X controls. I decided to disable the Link Scanner, but it results in an error when updating - says control file is missing. Easily rectified by re-enabling the Link Scanner.

I know that others on this forum have disabled the Link Scanner, and I wondered if they get the same problem?

I am still on AVG 7.5, but saw this in another thread click here. Does it help?
