Disabling Caching and Shadowing-XP

Back again with another problem for the experts. Keep getting a blue screen on start-up. After a two or three start-up attempts, things seem to settle down and work normally.

When blue screen appears, the message states that recently fitted hardware and/or software needs checking. Don't have any recently fitted items, so that suggestion could perhaps be ruled out. The message then suggests disabling caching and/or shadowing in the bios. Being one of these cautious types, I want to be sure that I will be doing the right thing, as I do not want to mess things up, more than they are already.

Step by step instructions of how to go into the bios and do the disabling of caching and shadowing, would be appreciated. What further problems or inconveniences could I perhaps expect, if all doesn't go well?.
