Disable power off

  TomG 17:58 16 Jul 2005

My youngest has taken to using the power switch on the front of the tower to turn off the PC instead of the normal shutdown procedure.

I've gone into control panel>power and changed the option to do nothing (on both his account and mine) but you can still turn off the PC by pressing the power button. The pc is a HP Pavilion a309.uk running on XP Home edition.

Any suggestions as to how I disable the option for turning off the pc by using the power button?

I don't know of one, and any work-around will likely take your youngest less time to bypass, than it took you to make it.

Time for a firm ... word?.... Or take the mains cable away!

Why not make a single-click shutdown icon on the desktop click here

Thanks chaps

I've tried a stiff word and threatend the removal of the PC (but its needed for homework - I've been to the HP website and it seems that there maybe a way to disable the option via the BIOS menu (which I'll protect with a password) - will let you know how I get on.

Well according to the HP website you can make a bios change to prevent this happening - but when I went into the bios the option isn't there
