Disable cut & paste in Word97 docs

  Leepy Lee 17:31 06 May 2004

Hi you knowledgeable lot!

Does anyone know if it possible to protect a word document in such a way that someone else cannot simply open a read only copy and cut & paste the contents into a new document?

Basically I want a way of allowing others to open or read a document without being able to edit or copy bits of it.

Any help appreciated.

be done with a macro...

but anyone could get round that by disabling macros.

You could do a screenshot and save it as a graphic... but that wouldn't prevent someone from also taking a screenshot and using OCR on it...

Or I think you can, (with the right software), save it as a PDF that can't be "copied"... thaough the same work round as abovecould be applied.

It depends how "secure" you want to make it... you can't foil them with absolute security.

Thanks for the suggestions - it doesn't have to be too secure. Just enough to make it easier to print complete rather than mess about taking just the good bits out and claiming they wrote it....
