Direct3D failure

  onthebog 12:19 14 Oct 2007

XP Pro, AthlonXP3200, ATI X1950pro 1.5GB RAM 550WPSU.

dxdiag reports Direct3D failure (error codes) and the spinning X never appears. I have the Catalyst 7.9 drivers for the video card and DirecX 9.0c installed. Could it be possible that the PSU is getting tired and causing this problem? I upgraded from a Radeon 9800pro recently which never gave me this problem. (1 Molex connector - X1950pro uses 2) Doom3 runs fast and clean at the highest settings yet this Direct3D problem persists. I even did a Repair Installation of XP to no avail. Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Installed Catalyst 7.10 and dx9.0c and no joy I'm afraid.

SUCCESS. I installed Catalyst 7.8 (and uprated the PSU too) and all is well at last. Thanks Marg7 - I'll get the first round for that one. Cheers
