Direct File Transfer by Ethernet Cable

I've been told it's possible to transfer about 4GB of Music files from a pc running XP Pro directly to one running W2000 with an ethernet cable without actually networking them. When connected, the computers "see" each other and I've designated the folder to share, but can't find it on the second computer and not sure how to suck it across.

Can anyone help?

via a crossover cable will be slow - it will still be going on when the the next ice-age dawns.

Frankly you would find it faster to simply write the data to CDs and transfer it all that way.

Thanks--that's what I've done--you'd think there might be an easier quicker way, though, wouldn't you?
