digital signatures

On renewing my Thawte digital certificates today I tested them to ensure they are properly installed.
I have found that mail sent to my BT addresses is not able to be opened properly in OE.
An error message is received saying that " There was an error decoding the message. The message header contains invalid data."
The mail can be opened but has no content other than an attachment "smime.p7m" which, when opened, gives the information that "the file is corrupted. Signature information might be missing"
The details state that the mail was not signed ( it was) or encrypted (it was).
Certificates from other providers give the same result.
All other accounts with other providers work properly. Unsigned mail sent through BT is received normally.
Are BT deliberately blocking or stripping encrypted and digitally signed mail?
