Difficult Print Spooler Problem

  peterleemaxwell 19:51 28 May 2007

Win. XP Pro.
On running a 'wipe-over' with the O.S. twice still have a print spooler problem:-
"Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
szAppName : spoolsv.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.0 szModName : ntdll.dll
szModVer : 5.1.2600.1106 offset : 0001aa5f
C:\DOCUME~1\Lee\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1A.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt "
When going to 'Add Printer ' PC states "Operation could not be completed".
I looked on the net tried several thins like:-
Starting the print spooler
Running the check file command via the Windows CD
Clearing out any old printer drivers (Canon i965)
Unplugging the printer via the usb
Running an registry correction prog.
Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?
Windows Restore is not an option as with a fresh O.S it removed all my previous settings. Thanks.

Is the print spooler service running ?

start/run and type services.msc and look to see if the service is enabled.

Hi skidzy,
As soon as I start the spooler and then go to add a printer it states the spooler has stopped.

Have you tried restarting the service via services.msc and properties.

Also check the makers website for an updated driver.

Also run ccleaner click here

Thanks skidzy I'll give that prog. a try.

Given that excellent prog a try and deleted all that I know I'm safe deleting. Still got a spooler problem. Tried another 'trawl' of the net and found several registry progs that stated they would 'fix' spooler problem faults. They found several hundreds of faults that requires a fee to fix. Strangely I have a paid version of System Mechanic v.6 that found no errors?
Any more things that might prove to be a cure?
