dial up connection keeps poping up on startup of windows 98se

It's probably trying to update something on your computer that is set to auto update, Zone alarm, or even Ms Media player if you have put some new files on, just check all the programs that have auto update on your computer & if you don't want it to dial up reconfigure to manual. Run a program like Spywareblaster, or Spybot to check for auti dial trojans just in case.

Sounds like a case for msconfig (type it in the Run command from the Start menu) Under the startup tab you'll see the services and programs that are loaded with Windows - one of these may be the culprit. Disable them one by one, avoiding ones needed by Windows like explorer.exe and see if the problem goes away.

Worst case scenario; it may be a trojan of some kind - do you use a firewall/antivirus program?
