I am giving my old desk top to my granddaughter.
XP Home OS
AMD 64 Chip
512 RAM
I had BT broadband on it but she is going to use pay as you go dial up.
I removed BT Yahoo Broadband and installed Tiscalli PAYG.
I then went to instal AVG anti Virus and download was going to take 2 hours- now I know why I have broadband!
Can I reinstall Broadband,by system restore, download AVG and any other free protection you would advise. Then instal Tiscalli?
Would I need to remove the broadband package or could it stay.

"Can I reinstall Broadband,by system restore"

No.

You will have to re-install BB using the original ISP CD and connect via the same telephone line/number.

"Would I need to remove the broadband package or could it stay"

Not necessarily, but it won't function at your granddaughter's address because a BB account can only be used down the telephone line/number to which it is registered.

I take it the computer is at another address. Why don't you download all the free programmes and burn them onto a CD? That would save moving the PC between houses.
If the PC is at your address, why not take advantage of BTs Home Hub and have both PCs on broadband, one wired and one wireless.

Just a small point. When I was on Tiscali BB, I occasionally used to borrow or update my best mate's laptop at home (it's normally used at the shop he owns, which also has a Tiscali BB service).

It worked on my phone number although set up for that of his shop...:-)

Saved having to set up a new configuration for my phone number...

I agree. It's the username and password that is checked, not the phone number.

"It's the username and password that is checked, not the phone number"

But if the phone number/line isn't BB enabled it ain't ever going to work!

"It worked on my phone number although set up for that of his shop"

But as both lines were enabled for Tiscali, there wouldn't be an issue, as you say

Have taken the option to download free stuff onto CD's and copy to other computer.
Have got AVG is there any other that would be needed?
