DHCP problems - cant DHCP wirelessly, others can..

Hi.

I just got NTL installed in the flat which I share with a few others. I have connected my NTL cable modem to a Dlink wireless router.

My two flatmates can connect wirelessly fine - they get assigned an IP address via DHCP from the router fine and can browse no problem.

The problem occurs when I try to connect. I just cannot get assigned an IP address at all. It just sits there trying and eventually shows "limited or no connectivity". this happens where I try to connect wirelessly or wired to the router.

I have tried iponfig /release and /renew to no joy.

I have also tried assigned a static IP address for my connection and this does allow me to connect but when I do this it seems to hog all the bandwidth and the other guys while still connected can not access and web pages etc.

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

With your network adapter (either the "wired" or the "wireless" one) set to get its IP address automatically and connected to the router, can you run IPCONFIG /ALL then right click in the Command Prompt window, "Select All", press Enter to copy to the clipboard and paste the contents into a reply here?

Just to see if there is anything that is obviously out of the ordinary.

Ok I will post it later,

I saw mentioned elsewhere to ensure NetBIOS is on. What is this?

Also is it normal that once I connect using a static address the others cant? What if I set them all as static?

All IP addresses should be set to obtain IP Address automatically.

I would recommend that NETBIOS is not configured. TCP/IP Protocol is a far great protocol than NETBIOS and more widely used.

Ok just been messing around a bit more.

Whenever I turn off security on the router it connects fine!!

But I can't have and dont want an unsecured wireless network.

Does this shed any light on anything? I am using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK security. I am definitely using the correct preshare key....

just realised I may have copied the IP details wrong in the above post for the second one.

I will look into it again and post correct one - inm pretty sure its just eth one that windows gives when it cant DHCP tho.
