Devolo plugs - Modem & Router or just either one

  boneyday44 15:00 31 Dec 2007

Hello, can any one put me straight on my requirements for setting up the Devolo plug sysyem.
I am running XP my main computer downstairs, accessing the internet via Orange using a Thompson Speedtouch modem which connects to the computer using a USB connection.
Can I continue to access the internet using this modem and running an Ethernet cable from the computer to the nearest Devolo plug ( my modem does not have the outlet socket to connect the ethernet cable directly to run it to the plug).
Or do I have to invest in a Router as well as the Devolo plugs in order to set up an internet connection on my second computer running Vista upstairs.
Any help will be very very welcome, thank you.

Seeing that your present modem is connected via the USB port you will need to purchase
a combine ADSL2/2+ Modem Wireless 54Mbps Firewall Router

Sample of the type required.

Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway Router

3Com Office Connect Wireless 54Mbps ADSL2/2+ Modem Firewall Router

D-Link Wireless G ADSL2+ Modem Router

Using the above type routers you would remove your present modem and do a total new install
