Does anyone know how to create a shutdown icon on desktop my O/S is XP.

I can do it for w98 but have upgraded and same one does not work.

You can create a desktop shortcut to shutdown. The shortcut 'target' needs to be: "%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00" without the quotes. For a restart shortcut simply change -s to -r.

Hope this helps.

The one below is for shutdown

%windir%\System32\SHUTDOWN.exe -s -t 01

This one below is for shutdown then restart

%windir%\System32\Shutdown.exe -r -t 0

I use this little utility click here which sits in the system tray and you just double click it to shutdown. HTH TR

It simply means that instead of doing start/turn off computer/turn off(in XP) I simply c/o the desktop once.
