I have 6 or 7 shortcut icons that look like white squares of shredded paper....the links work...I have deleted them and recreated....AVAST virus scan clean and no adware.....I did a scan which fixed sectors and the icons then worked correctly...then when I turned the PC back on this morning...they were back...I can create shortcuts with other programs and it does not happen to themI do not know what to do....can someone help me???sunshine
click here download Tweakui and install it then click on repair Icons. If that doesn't work go to start/Run/Type sfc /scannow (watch the space) you will need your XP disc.
Should read in Tweakui click on Repair then click Rebuild icons.
It sounds like your graphics card drivers may need updating or your colour/resolution/refresh settings might not be handled by your monitor.Try right clicking on the Desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced button>Adapter tab and clicking on List All Modes. This details what settings your monitor will handle. You can also change the background colour of the icons from the same initial link>Desktop tab>Colour.
tweakit worked..the problem is fixed!Sunshine
