I am starting to get a lot of desktop icons and
was wondering what was the best way to put some of the icons i do not use that often into one desktop folder that i can just click on and open when i want them.
Am using windows xp sp2.

just right-click on an open part of desktop, and select new-folder, then cut and paste, or drag the icons into the folder.

Try a right click on an empty part of the desktop.
Select 'Arrange icons by' and then 'Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard.'

put the icons you don't use much into a dock. click here
It slides off the screen when you are not accessing it and pops out when you put the cursor near it.
Works like a MAC if you've seen one in use.

To really fox people you can put all your shortcuts into the dock and right click on the taskbar and select properties/auto hide the taskbar.
You will then have a desktop with only your wallpaper on it and no shortcuts.
The taskbar will pop up when you put the cursor near the bottom of the screen and the dock will do the same depending on which edge of the screen you have chosen to hide.
