Dell Start up Problems

My 27 month old Dell Dimsension is out of warranty.
It will not boot up and I sought the advice of a local computer technician, who tells me that the motherboard need replacing, and that he can not get hold of Dell motherboards.
Any advice as to how I should proceed?
Also a bit worried about losing data. Is there any way of saving my hard disc if I find that I can not replace motherboard.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hopefully the hard drive is ok even if the motherboard is dead. You should be able to take the drive out and put into another machine as a slave drive and access your data from there.

Thanks for your help.
I came to the conclusion that it would be easier to build a new computer using the existing hard drive and any other usable components, and have asked my local computer shop to do this for me. I have to get a new box since the Dell unit is built to avoid this type of treatment. It will also allow me to add a more powerful power unit.
Thanks again

I think that you are correct; nothing much to be gained from trying to save the current machine. Salvage what you can and make the most of the new one.
