Most present day motherboard only have 2 connectors for memory

You will need to check the motherboard to see how many connectors the dell have

On dell computers you cannot just stick in any type of memory as it will not work

Use this site to check for the best type of memory that will work on your dell computer

DDR RAM modules have 184 pins, DDR2 RAM modules have 240 pins. The DDR modules your mate gave you, wont fit.
