Dell LCD Problem

  Sebby 18:03 06 Jan 2007

I've got a Dell LCD monitor that will only display a picture for about a second before disappearing. The monitor does not switch off; it just stops displaying anything. If I switch it off and back on, it will display a picture for another second before the same thing happens. I can repeat this as many times as I like; after switching on, it will only display anything for a second. When the picture is displayed, it looks fine so there's nothing wrong with the LCD as such.

If I unplug the VGA cable and switch the monitor on, it displays a self-test then goes blank.

It's not the computer as the same thing happens on any other computer it's connected to.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you can try with another monitor first or try the LCD on another PC.

If definately the LCD the ring Dell. Had one do this on an imstall once. They replaced it the next day.

The same thing happens on any other PC.

It's no good calling Dell as it's out of warranty. ;-)

I just wondered if anyone might have some suggestions...

Ah didn't realise it was out of warranty. It something to do with the back-light on the LCD but i don't know why it only stays on for a moment. You can try a repairer but suspect might be cheaper to replace.
