Dell latitude D510 won't power up

WI press the power on button it almost immediately shuts itself down without booting up.

It does seem to work briefly at the start of the day but after only a couple of minutes it freezes and I have to switch it off. If I then try to power it up again it does as before i.e just switches off automatically.

Any clues anybody?

maybe the charger is duff and the battery is flat??

the AC adaptor seems ok as the LED is lit and it does power up, be it briefly at the start of the day

what happens if you take out the battery and run it using the charger??

exactly the same, it works for a while first thing but then freezes and all other times just switches straight back off

fraid it's beyond me then. We have Dell Latitude D600's here and we've had dozens of HDD failures, but symptoms were not like yours.

Sounds like it's powering down to protect itself from something; maybe the cpu or it's cooling fan are on the blink?
