Dell Inspiron hard drive

  degssie 23:22 04 Jul 2010

The hard drive on my Son's Dell Inspiron 1520 packed up and he had a new drive fitted by a local repair shop. It then worked OK.
Now after a couple of months the machine is reporting that it can not recognise the hard drive. He has checked that everything is ok with the connections etc but is reluctant to pay another £45 just for them to look at it. Is it possible that the motherboard has gone or is the problem likely to be with the drive?

What is the exact message you are getting?

If it's only 2 mths and the report is about the hard drive which was changed, I would have thought the shop would be prepered to check it for no payment. If they won't, then I would not use them again!

The message reads:-
Internal Hard Disk Not Found. To Resolve This Issue Try to Reseat The Drive"
"No Bootable Devices Found"
Pressing F5 to run diagnostics comes up with error code 2000-01411 no hard drive detected.
My son has tried physicaly reinstalling the hard drive as suggested.

Either the new drive has failed
or data cable failed
or power supply or power failed to drive.

1. swapping the power cable
2. swapping the data cable
3. take it back a couple of months is not a reasonable time for a failure.
