Dell Inspiron 1545 Motherboard

I have foolishly spilt a small amount of water on my laptop keyboard. 5 or 6 keys on the integral keyboard do not work. However an external keyboard works fine. I thought that all I would need would be a new integral keyboard. Dell (eventualy after many calls!)claim I will need a very expensive new motherboard as it will be corroded and stop working. I explained that the external keyboard works fine but they were insistent that I buy a new motherboard.

I am concerned that they are just trying to get me to buy a hugely expensive part I don't need or is it really true that the whole thing will stop working soon because of rust. I am tempted to just see what happens rather than pay hundreds for a new motherboard.

Hi hallgreen, if you don't mind me asking, how much are they asking for a replacement motherboard? G

£170? Ouch!

Strawballs, somehow I don't think a replacement keyboard will help.

One wonders if it's worth a try for £10-15 click here though? G

I'm hoping a new keyboard may help and Dell are just trying to get me to spend £170 as nothing else has gone wrong yet but I suppose I don't know what nasty things are happening in the deep recesses of the computer!
