Dell Inspiron 1501

Laptop as above with XP home edition installed, when I switch the machine on it starts to boot and then a message appears at the top of the screen saying " The system cannot identify the battery and will not therefore charge it, press any key to continue" it boots up as normal and operates as normal.When I disconnect the mains supply lead the battery shows as fully charged and gives a time of 2hrs 40mins worth of charge remaining, so I assume the system is charging ok. I have removed the battery and replaced again but still it persists. Question is, why do I get this message and what can I do to prevent it?

you need to contact dell support,it seems as though you are far from alone with that problem
