Hello...can anyone help please ??
I got a dell at christmas which has been rarely used, but recently I decided to connect it to internet.
Shortly after downloading AVG and McAfee firewall from AOL the computer would not boot.
The message was:
'a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

This is followed by bits of advice which didn't help.
Contacted DELL helpline... I thought because it's under warranty they would help but they said it's a software problem so was not guaranteed.
They knew how to fix it but wanted £50+vat to talk me through it over the phone to fix it !!
Wasn't impressed with them.
Has anyone had this problem or know what I can do without lining DELL'S pockets?

Have you tried System Restore (Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore) to before you loaded the new software?

if you have removed avg & mcafee by system restore you will still need a firewall & anti virus protection if you go on line,
