DELL Dimension 8300 to E520

  degssie 00:44 26 Dec 2006

I have just ordered a DELL Dimension E520 with the following specs:-
Intel Pentium D915 Dual Core Processor (2.80 GHz, 800MHx, 2X2MB).
1024 MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2X512] Memory.
250 GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache.
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3000.
Integrated Audio with Dolby Digital 7.1 capability.

To replace an old 8300 to which I have added a GeForce6800GS/XT.

Is it possible to transfer the graphics card from the 8300 to the E520 and will it be worth it and will there be integrated graphics left in the 8300 so that I can still use it?

The 6800GS/XT is an AGP card. Your new PC does not seem to have this slot.

To answer your second question, you can remove the Graphics Card and run the 8300 on the on-board graphics.

Just a word of warning that im sure you are aware of,if you try to upgrade the Dell will be in breach of the warranty, therefore making the warranty worthless.
Though you could ask Dell to upgrade to a better Graphics card, without doing any research,im guessing it has a pci express slot.If so can haggle with Dell and may get a better bargain than you actually realise.

Rigor mortis & skidzy,
thanks for the information and I have followed skidzy's advice and contacted Dell. They could not ammend my order and so I cancelled and re-ordered. I got a 256MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 Pro graphics card and a 13 to 1 internal media card reader for £60 more than my origional system and also got free shipping.
I just hope the card is a good one.
