Dell Blue Screen of Death

Really having problems cracking this one.

A Dell Vostro 260, Win7 keeps blue screening in normal mode. It does seem OK in Safe Mode. I therefore suspect a driver problem. I tried to use the Dell Sysytem Detect Application to check the drivers were up to date but keep getting the message 'unable to analyse system'. Most BOSD probs are graphics driver issues so I installed an ATI Radeon Graphics Card with drivers but still gt the problem.

Is there a way of eliminating the drivers one by one that load in normal mode but not in Safe Mode?

Any other help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you set up a 'clean boot' to see if you can narrow down what is causing the BSOD? Clean boot.

  Legslip 07:58 19 Aug 2013

Thanks Rdave. Have set up a clean boot and replaced RAM, and BOSD still occurs. Have also loaded all the Dell drivers. NbSOD is Irq Not Less Than Equel. Have also reinstalled Win7 twice.

Could it be the HDrive? Is it worth trying another? Am at wits end with this one!

Legslip, it would be most helpful if you could pin-point the exact cause of those pesky BSoDs so download and install BlueScreenView. Start the program, and in the top-pane you should see a list of all your BSoDs so double-click on the most recent and copy 'n' paste the following info here for us to look at:

Bug Check String

Caused by Driver

Do the same for three of the other recent ones and let us know the details too - but only if they're different of course.

Thanks for all that info.

Two of the files mentioned in the crash-dump file are core Windows files so that doesn't really help us much. However the file dxgkrnl.sys appears to be a video driver so that may be significant (but we'll put that on the back burner for now).

Hard drive errors can certainly cause a IRQLNOTLESSOREQUAL BSoD, so before you do anything else, run a full disk check on the system drive (usually called C:):

Click Start -> Computer -> right-click your C: drive icon -> Properties -> "Tools" tab -> "Check Now" button -> tick both boxes -> click the "Start" button -> answer "Yes" when prompted -> restart your computer and the disk check should start automatically. The full disk check could easily take a couple of hours or more so be patient.

When the check has completed, I'd like to see its report so look here and then copy 'n' paste the info into your reply.

I have got spare HDrives. Is it worth trying one?
