Good morning everyone.
I have just downloaded Skype to chat to a friend in South Africa. I have an integrated digital array microphone on the laptop and cannot get it to work. I have checked all the possible setting that I could find but still no joy.
this may well be a case of 'cannot see the wood for the trees' so would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

It may not be possible to use the integrated mike with skype. Check with Dell to confirm this, but a cheap usb version will work fine:

The above is what I use for flight sim and the like, but have a dedicated handset for skype.

It should work OK with the integrated mike, but is never very satisfactory. I use a headset instead of mike/speaker but crosstrainer's suggestion is also good.

Have a read of Skype's sound manual - select your Op System and work through it

Thank you for both suggestions. I went and bought a cheap headset this afternoon and cannot still get anything to work. been thru all the settings and nothing happens.
this is rather baffling me. can get sound fine through the headset but cannot get the mic to work. No matter what I do.
