i had a years school work saved in a file and which i thought i had backed up to disk. subsequently i can't find the disk and the file is no longer on my computer. is there a free or inexpensive utility which recover such a file or can anybody suggest a method of retrieving tis data?

i have tried the program but any files i find that maybe one of mine opens up in a text very like unicode or rich text and there is no options available to open them in a format that is comprehendible.

have you any suggestions?

Could be there is something amiss that is causing this, and for your file to go missing.

Try Run, sfc /scannow.
