defragmenting

i have 98se.when i defrag,i get the message defrag is complete,i defrag again straight away and find that the files are exactly as they were before the defrag.i have tried several times and they remain the same...i have all programs turned off..can anyone help please.....

Try rebooting after the first defrag.

Use safe mode to defrag.

Every file the same or just some that it does defrag ?

Try turning off virtual memory.

You dont see files you see a screen of different coloured squares that windows sees as clusters and it could have moved then and they just look the same.

I can thoroughly recommend this program which is installed on my desktop and laptop. Both now have 0 (zero) fragmented files even though it took about a week to completely defrag my latop. So impressed I actually bought the pro version.... Get it.

diskeeper lite worked....the problem came back ,i discovered it was caused by spyware......(my websearch)... thanks everyone
