Whenever I use `defrag', it takes ages. It runs for a minute then closes with the message `contents of drive changed. defrag is restarting'.I closed down `Norton' thinking that this was the problem, but I've obviously got something else running that is interupting the defrag facility. Any suggestion gratefully appreciated?
Try running defrag in safe mode, with screensaver disabled
Try running scandisk first, then defrag the drive and see if this makes any difference.
Do as muppetmark suggests; defrag in Safe Mode. This should solve your problem.You could also try the excellent, and free, Diskeeper-Liteclick here
you could press ctrl+alt+delete and highlight and end task on everything except explorer(because thats your windows) as well disabling any antivirus, and switch off screen saver.it worked for me
