Need help on this one please guys.

For various reasons I have had to install a new HDDand processor into a mates PC. The original HDD was completely wiped by a virus and could not be reformated. The processor was damaged when another helpful friend of his lifted out the whole processor/heatsink/fan assembly to look at the old HDD instead of taking the front cover of.
The original chip was an Intel pentium 4 2.8GHz, 533MHz FSB socket 478.
He has purchased an Intel Celeron D335 of the same spec and it fits ok using the old heatsink.
When I power up there is no signal to the monitor at all.

Idon't know what the mother board is so I cant confirm compatibility with the new chip.

Am I missing something glaringly obvious

Thanks for any advice

Check the RAM and graphics card are seated properly.

Do you get any Beeps?

Can you look on the motherboard to see if it says what it is?

Thanks Andy

Iv'e checked that the everything is seated correctly

There are no beeps. I have pulled and replaced, after 2 mins, as many jumpers as I can find in case one is the CMOS reset jumper I shall do an extensive search on the MB for any info. I wish everyone would run Belarc Advisor and do a print out so that we all know what's what

Normally on the edge of the motherboard or between the pci slots.

Further investigation shows that the PC is a Microstar PC MT5 and the motherboard is MS 6533 version 1 on which any socket 478 chip should be compatible.

Where do I go from here?

Its an MSI Board click here=

thanks Andy

According to MSI it looks like it will only support a Pentium 4.

I shall pass on the bad nems to my mate tonight
Thanks again for your help and advice.

This is always the best place to go for it
