Data execution prevention and ie8

i have had a meesage come up on the screen that says basically DEP has stopped internet explorer from working. I am on windows xp.
I have been to control panel, system, advanced, under performance i go to settings, then to Data Execution Prevention. i tick the box Internet Explorer and apply.
I reboot my computer and the same happens when i try to get a web page up.
I'm at a loss.
Please help as im tearing my hair out. I don't have much left.
I also have a program in the DEP that i have never heard of. It's called tkneevaka. Does anyone know if this might be the cause(virus).
Many thanks in advance
