i need to open a programme that has dat files. i need to open this programme in microsoft access is it possible and how do i do it.

It depends on what progam created the files. If you know it, there may be an option to export in a format which access can recognise.

Open access and by using file, open, try to open the dat file - it may work.

Dat file simply means that it is a data file, and unfortunately programmers use the dat extension quite indiscriminately, so as Diodorus Siculus, said, unless you know what program generated the file, you can only find what to open it by trial and error. Try opening the file with Notepad, Wordpad or some other text editor. If you can read the file you will know that it is just a data list. If it is some other type of file, you may see a clue among the gobbledegook.
